Design Trends for Winter 2022

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

As the warmer months come to an end, we are starting to notice a chill in the air which calls for a need to spice up our homes and make them cosy. The change in season provides us with the perfect excuse to give our homes a little makeover. We as Interior Designers have come up with four quick and cosy ideas that are guaranteed to bring warmth, comfort and a fresh new look to your home.

Layers and Textures

One of the quickest wat to introduce warmth into your home is through incorporating layers. Things like throw rugs, cushions, faux sheepskins, floor rugs and heavy curtains all bring an element of cosiness to a room and you'll have all creature comforts within arm's reach. When layering your home, don't be afraid to use different textures. Fabric selection of your products will echo the coming of winter, with velvet, wool, cashmere and (faux) fur being the options of choice to channel warmth and texture into a room.

Biophilic Design

With less time spent outside, we do not tend to get our dosage of nature that we as individuals need. Humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life. Design that connects us to nature is proven to inspire us, boost our productivity and even contribute to a stronger sense of well-being. Bring a little of the outside in by way of indoor plants (check out our blog on An Urban Jungle - The Importance of House Plants, or buy a bunch of flowers every week at the farmers market to bring a sunny disposition to the dreariest of corners.

Earthy Hues

Winter colour trends tend to take inspiration from the great outdoors, considering we don't spend as much time as we would like to outside in the cooler months. Pairing timber tones with earthy shades such as browns, warm greens, rust, caramel and turmeric, is bound to create a warm and cosy environment. Use these versatile colours in your living area, family room, entry, dining room or kitchen to create a welcoming and cocooning feel that’s perfect for the chilly months.

Natural Materials

Natural woven materials (e.g. rattan) and solid woods, evoke a feeling of warmth and joy in a home, especially in the cooler months. These classic materials bring interest and a sense of craftsmanship to your home that transcends the season. And they sit beautifully alongside other popular natural materials, such as marble and terracotta.
